

With this in mind, a thought struck me as I read the first issue of Marvel’s (brilliant) Darth Vader comic.

We’re meant to connect to the myth, just as it masterfully connects to itself.

It’s meant not just to entertain us but to teach us as well. That is one of the most important parts of Star Wars as a modern myth. It’s a struggle we share, and one that often gets the best of us. We see this play out through all six films, in Anakin, in Luke, and across the galaxy as a whole. As Luke struggles to survive his encounter with the Sith Lord, both physically and emotionally, we see the central struggle of the Star Wars Saga once again – the struggle between the Light and the Dark…and the Dark looks like it’s winning. “You don’t know the power of the Dark Side,” Vader promises Luke during the climactic scene of The Empire Strikes Back.
